Traffic on the Professor Van Buchemlaan in Tilburg can use the road again around five o’clock on Thursday afternoon. This has been closed for hours, after a truck rode against the pedestrian bridge and tilted the bridge. With a crane, the 14 -tonne bridge has been tackled and removed on a truck.
The Professor Van Buchemlaan is a main route to the Elisabeth-TweeSteden Hospital. Ambulances and visitors to the hospital therefore had to make a detour. According to the hospital, that did not cause any problems. “The ambulance personnel are aware and knows the routes to drive,” said a hospital spokesperson.
In the accident a pedestrian was injured, he was taken to the hospital. The man got stuck between the tilted bridge and the side of the footpath.
A large crane came to the scene of the accident. Four thick chains were put around the walkway to raise the colossus. After a twist in the air, the bridge was placed on a truck.
The municipality will investigate what will happen to it now. It is also examined how the connection between the Leijpark and the adjacent residential area can be restored.
