In Drenthe and the rest of the country, Geel applies this afternoon and evening. Heavy thunderstorms then pull from the southwest to the northeast.
The showers, which can take about two hours, can be accompanied by hail and gusts of wind of 60 kilometers per hour. Localally, 30 millimeters of rain can fall within an hour. The KNMI warns of local flooding or breaking branches due to a temporarily rapidly increasing wind.
“In some places the showers can cause flooding because tunnels and streets are blank. Especially for outdoor activities and events there is a chance of nuisance and dangerous situations due to sudden gusts of wind and lightning strike,” said KNMI.
“Sunday starts with sunny periods. The temperature rises to around 26 degrees and it feels a bit sultry,” said RTV Drenthe-Weerman Gert Voerman on Thursday. “But in the afternoon and evening, sturdy thunderstorms will pass.”
“That cover is something to keep an eye on. It can rain firmly in various places, with a thunderstorm,” says Voerman. “That can turn out violently.”
