The hotel received a complete makeover. 1 million euros have been invested in the contemporary hotel experience. Things are once again going in the right direction for the coastal hotels. Many old hotels have disappeared under pressure from apartment construction. In particular, the family hotels that formed the basis of the former coastal tourism were replaced by apartments.
Jurgen Vanlerberghe, Westtoer: “We have 1,200 rooms and the four-star segment has grown by 66 percent. If we look at the occupancy figures, we are actually doing better than inland. The coastal hotel sector is doing well.”
It is now the third generation of the De Jonckheere family to run a coastal hotel. Together with the new address, this amounts to 80 rooms.
Theo De Jonckheere, hotel owner: “There is a market. But we hope that Westtoer shifts the focus to markets further away. We want to bring people here, because there is also something to do here in winter.”
Westtoer speaks of more than 10 million overnight stays on the coast last summer.
