Club legend appears to be Fredi Bobic’s successor

Hertha BSC apparently distributes the tasks of the dismissed sports director Fredi Bobic over several shoulders. A real club legend should return to the Berliners in this context.

At 7:55 p.m. on Saturday evening, Hertha BSC announced the personal hammer: Just hours after the 0-2 defeat in the derby against Union Berlin, Fredi Bobic had to resign as the person responsible for sport.

The official association announcement spoke of a unanimous decision in the Executive Committee and the Supervisory Board. The club has not yet released any information about the succession plan.

But these are now seeping through: As “Bild” reports, a duo will take over Bobic’s tasks in the future and act as a link between the team and the management.

It is therefore about ex-professional Andreas “Zecke” Neuendorf and Benjamin Weber.

Neuendorf is a real club legend and has played well over 250 games for the Hertha BSC professional team and the second team.

Several more personnel changes at Hertha BSC

In 2014, the 47-year-old ended his active career and switched to coaching, from 2015 in the youth division of the old lady. In 2021 he then acted as assistant coach to the then head coach Pál Dárdai for a few months. Then they parted ways. The fact that Neuendorf is now apparently making his Hertha comeback in management is quite surprising.

Weber is also a returnee with the Berliners. He worked for Hertha BSC between 2004 and 2022, including eight years as head of the youth academy and as the right hand of Bobic’s predecessor, Michael Preetz.

According to “Bild”, he is now replacing technical director Sebastian Zelichowski, a Bobic confidant, who also has to leave the club. That probably also applies to team manager Thomas Westphal, while squad planner Dirk Dufner is said to be keeping his post for the time being.
