The lifeguards look back on a busy summer: due to the warm weather, many tourists came to the sea to cool off. That also led to great crowds among the rescuers, “but we close with a good feeling,” says chief rescuer Tom Cocle van Blankenberge on radio2. “The two Poles who drowned in an unguarded zone just before the summer were a wake-up call for us. Fortunately, we were able to keep it safe afterwards.”

This summer, too, many children were lost on the beach, with Ostend leading the way. The city previously announced that it is working on an action plan to reduce the number of lost children next summer.
