Chelsea loses again – Man City’s dress rehearsal before Leipzig fails

Ward Prowse scores

Three days after the Champions League defeat at Borussia Dortmund (0:1), Chelsea also suffered a severe setback in the Premier League. The Blues embarrassed themselves on Saturday with 0: 1 (0: 1) at bottom FC Southampton. James Ward-Prowse (45th minute +1) scored a free-kick just before half-time to give the Saints a surprise win.

Chelsea are still in the crisis under coach Graham Potter. It was the fourth game in a row without a win for the Blues after three draws in a row. The Londoners, who spent around 330 million euros on new players in the winter transfer market, are only tenth in the Premier League table and were ten points behind a Champions League place after the final whistle.

At the same time, champions Manchester City suffered a setback before the round of 16 first leg of the “premier class” at RB Leipzig. At newly promoted Nottingham Forest, City only managed to draw 1-1 (1-0) after a lead at half-time and thus failed to displace Arsenal from the top of the table again. Bernardo Silva (41st) put the defending champion in the lead. Chris Wood (84th) managed to equalize in the closing stages. Man City has 52 points after 24 games. Arsenal have 54 points but only played 23 games.

Before the games, the deceased ex-Premier League professional Christian Atsu was commemorated in the stadiums. The Ghanaian, who had played for Chelsea FC and Newcastle United, among others, died in the earthquake disaster in the Turkish-Syrian border region.
