Chelsea expect Mateo Kovacic to leave – rumors about FC Bayern

End of contract 2024

Mateo Kovacic is one of the players with the most minutes this season at Chelsea. Nevertheless, the ways could part in the summer, because as the English newspaper “The Guardians“reported, the Blues expect the 29-year-old to leave. The Croatian’s contract expires in 2024, which is why Chelsea only have the upcoming transfer window to achieve an adequate fee.

There is said to be no sign of an agreement being reached with Kovacic over an extension. Meanwhile, Chelsea are dependent on proceeds after record spending of 611 million euros. The Athletic recently said the London club would need to sell some players from their oversized squad by June 30 in order to boost revenue for the current financial year – particularly in light of the English league’s and UEFA’s financial fair play (to the background).

Caretaker manager Frank Lampard’s current squad has 32 players, making it the second largest in the Premier League. There are also eight other professionals who have lent out the Londoners, including transfer flop and top earner Romelu Lukaku (29). In addition, the commitment of Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku (25) is considered safe. The only contracts ending on June 30 are those of loan players João Félix (23) and Denis Zakaria (26) and that of N’Golo Kanté (32).

According to the Guardian, Kovacic is one of several possible “top-class departures”, according to reports, the two homegrown children Mason Mount (24) and Conor Gallagher (23) as well as Hakim Ziyech (30) and Christian Pulisic (24) are also on the list sales list. FC Bayern and the Manchester clubs City and United are traded as possible buyers for Kovacic. City in particular seems to be seriously interested, because the Croatian TV station “N1‘ recently reported that representatives of the midfielder have traveled to London for talks with the league leaders. A transfer fee of EUR 34.5m (£30m) is in the air.

The market value of the Croatian national player is currently estimated at 40 million euros after it was slightly devalued during the course of the season. Kovacic has been at Chelsea since 2018, initially on loan from Real Madrid and then signing on for €45m the following year. He made 219 appearances for the Blues (6 goals/15 assists) and this season only four teammates have tallyed more minutes than Kovacic’s 2,402.
