For Aarón Anselmino (19), Chelsea FC paid a higher fee than ever before for a teenage central defender last summer. The idea was to let the Boca Juniors talent play in Argentina until the end of the season and not bring them to London until the summer of 2025. But there has been a rethink at the Blues, Anselmino has already arrived at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea officially announced the decision on Friday without going into the exact background. Anselmino, who cost 16.5 million euros, appeared 13 times for Boca Juniors after his move to England was confirmed before a thigh injury slowed him down.
It is expected that Chelsea will now look for another loan opportunity for the young professional, whom the Premier League club has made one of the 15 most expensive central defenders in the world up to the age of 19. The contract in London runs until June 2031.
