Chantal Nijkerken-de Haan will be the new mayor of the municipality of Vught. This makes her the first female mayor of the municipality. If everything goes according to plan, she will officially start working in her new position on 2 April 2025.

Chantal Nijkerken-de Haan (VVD) was born in Rijswijk. She has been acting mayor of the Limburg municipality of Beesel since 16 September 2024.

She was previously alderman in the municipalities of Onderbanken, Meerssen and Venray. Between 2015 and 2021 she was a member of the House of Representatives.

“I look forward to quickly getting to know the residents of Vught, Cromvoirt and Helvoirt,” says the future mayor.

Background
Before Nijkerken- de Haan is definitively appointed as mayor of Vught, she must go through a few official steps. The General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD) carries out a background investigation and the Tax Authorities checks the tax matters.

A conversation is also planned with the Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. He will nominate the new mayor to the king, who appoints the mayor by Royal Decree.

Pi Vught and Railruns
In April, Nijkenken will take the oath or promise to the King’s Commissioner. This officially becomes her appointment for a period of six years, ie until 2031.

In the portfolio of the new mayor there will be files such as the safety around the PI in Vught and the large -scale renewal of the rail and the N65.
