The time of restraint on the transfer market in the corona pandemic is over for Europe’s top clubs.

As can be seen from the report published by the world football association FIFA, the equivalent of five billion euros were moved for international player changes during the changeover period this summer, almost reaching the level of the pre-Corona period again.

Compared to the previous year, the transfer volume increased by almost 1.3 billion euros and thus by 34 percent. A total of 9717 club changes is also a record.

Million Agent Fees

With a transfer turnover of 443.6 million euros, the German clubs are in third place in the European expenditure rankings, behind the teams from England and Italy. This is an increase of 32 percent compared to the previous year. Revenue remained almost the same at 333 million euros compared to 2021 (326 million euros).

According to FIFA, almost 500 million euros were paid for agent fees. With the so-called “commission caps”, this sum should be linked to the player salaries instead of to the transfer fees from next year and thus be significantly reduced. Only 69 million euros were due in compensation payments for the training associations. With new regulations, FIFA is aiming for a significant increase in this area in the future.

In women’s football, German clubs rank fifth in Europe this summer with transfer expenses of 180,000 euros and income of 86,000 euros. A total of 684 international transfers is also a high.
