Longtime manager Karin Danner will leave the women’s soccer team at FC Bayern Munich on June 30 at her own request.
Bianca Rech, who has been team manager and sports director since 2016, will take over her position as head of department. Under Danner, the Munich team won the championship three times – most recently in 2021 – and the DFB Cup once (2015).
Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn pays tribute to Danner
“Our women’s soccer department is her life’s work – and that’s more than successful,” said club president Herbert Hainer. The chairman of the board, Oliver Kahn, added that the 64-year-old “had a lasting influence on this unique success story as a player and above all as a manager”, she would “always be a face of FC Bayern” and the club “owed her an immense debt of gratitude”.
Rech also expressly praised her predecessor. Danner, who came to Bayern Munich at the age of 18 and ended her playing career there in 1993, will “leave a big gap. She laid the foundation for everything here,” she said.
