Yaro (19) wakes up carefully from a coma after 67 days after a serious fight in Ghent: “A huge step, although we still have to wait and see”

A bright spot in dark times for the family of Yaro D’Hoore (19) from Oudenburg in West Flanders. After 67 days in a coma, the young teenager slowly wakes up, says his grandmother Claudine. Yaro was severely beaten two months ago after a night out in Ghent, East Flanders. “We immediately saw that his look was different. When we played a song that meant a lot to him, he started to cry,” says the woman with a trembling voice. “Although we remain anxious to see how his condition evolves, because it is certain that there is (much) brain damage.”
