Thanks to Antoine Griezmann’s once again great performance, Atletico Madrid still has its sights set on a direct place in the round of 16 in the Champions League. The 33-year-old Frenchman scored twice again in the 3-1 (2-0) win against Slovan Bratislava on Wednesday, which he had already achieved on Sunday in the 4-3 win against FC Sevilla in La Liga.
In the second early game, OSC Lille struggled to a 3:2 (2:1) against Sturm Graz and with 13 points also has a good chance of a direct ticket to the round of 16.
Bratislava with their sixth defeat in their sixth game
With twelve points after six games, Atletico remains close to eighth place, which is enough for immediate entry into the round of 16. For the Slovaks from Bratislava it was the sixth defeat in the sixth game; only RB Leipzig had had such a weak start this season.
After Argentine world champion Julian Alvarez made it 1-0 (16th), Griezmann (42nd) increased the score in Madrid shortly before half-time. After David Strelec’s goal (51′), Griezmann (57′) made the final score with his seventh goal in the last five games.
