Inter Milan was not impressed by Barcelona’s exceptional players and moved into the final of the Champions League with another highly exciting game. After the 3: 3 spectacle in the first leg on Tuesday in the Giuseppe-Mazza Stadium in Milan, 4: 3 (2: 0; 1: 3) prevailed after extra time. Yann Sommer captured the victory of the Lombards and was elected “Man of the Match”.
“It was once again an incredible game. We felt outside. And then you can see what the San Siro is. Incredible”Sommer said after a big football evening at “Amazon Prime”. After preparing the again enormously conspicuous Denzel Dumfries, Inter-captain Lautaro Martinez brought the hosts in the lead (21st), the former Bundesliga player Hakan Calhanoglu increased by penalty (45.+1).
After the change of sides, the guests came back impressively: First Eric Garcia made the connection (54th), Dani Olmo did the equalization (60th). Then Raphinha struck for Barca and brought Hansi Flick’s team in front. When the Milan fans almost mourned the defeat, Franceso Acerbi promoted the Italians to extra time (90.+3).
There the late Davide Frattesi shot “Internazionale” into the final (99th). “What happened there? I don’t know. I cheered so loudly that my head turned”said the scorer. And his trainer Simone Inzaghi said: “A round applause to my players who showed two monstrous performances. I am so happy to be your trainer.”
Favorite situation unclear
The dramatic and high -class first leg had left room for many speculations before the final game for moving into the final: Would FC Barcelona convert its playful superiority into significantly more goals this time? Or would the team of Simone Inzaghi be cheered on by his frenetic fans to destroy the magic of the Catalans?
The answers: “No” and “yes”. Because Inzaghi set his team perfectly on the dribble -strong Spaniards with the returned Lautaro Martinez. Federico Dimarco in particular often prevented young star Lamine Yamal from putting his enormous skills on the lawn. The Raphinha, which was so strong in the first leg, rarely radiated danger on Barcelona’s side.
Inter with significantly more initial
At the same time, the Milanese did more for the game right from the start and replied the high pressing of the Spaniards, in which Robert Lewandowski sat on the bench again after a break. Goalkeeper returnee Marc-André Ter Stegen was not yet registered for the Champions League game. For him, the reactivated Pole Wojciech Szczesny guarded the Barca box.
And Szczesny quickly showed his class: Nicolo Barella checked the keeper in the mid -first half, who parried the shot from a half -right position. But a little later the experienced goalkeeper was powerless: Dimarco led Dani Olmo in the middle of the field and served Denzel Dumfries with an intelligent pass goal scorer. He saw the Martinez, who was running, who pushed the ball into the goal for Szczesny.
Barca without good ideas
Barcelona was increasingly perplex against the confident Italians. Inter moved forward earlier, had more game shares and even increased before the break: Lautaro approached Szczesny in a push, but was successfully tackled in the penalty area by Pau Cubarsi. But also violent: After the Var test, the Polish referee Szymon Marciniak decided on a penalty. Calhanoglu did not take the chance and transformed massively and placed at the bottom left.
Barca is sufficient for the equalization for six minutes
After the change of sides, Inter came into play better, but a header from Francesco Acerbi was not given away due to offside. After that, however, it didn’t take long for Inter-Keeper Yann Sommer to get the ball out of his own goal twice: First, Eric Garcia took a cross from the left of Gerard Martin right in the back of the penalty area with the right inside and circulating the ball into the goal of the home side.
Sommer parried strongly against Garcia during a 3-against-2 counterattack, who pushed the ball onto the goalkeeper free-standing. But when Martin flanked on the second ppective again from the half -left position, Olmo was perfectly run and put on draws by flight headball.
Tifosi fear penalty
Inter Swands increasingly pressed the forces and the guests: When Mchitarjan Yamal laid, the Tifosi feared to fall behind: But the Var saw the beginning of the action that led to the foul outside the penalty area. The following free kick left the starting force from Catalonia unused.
Between the 71st and 79th minute, Dimarco, Lautaro, the German national player Yann Bisseck, Calhanoglu and Henrich Mchitarjan had to go. At first it looked like the change of the increasingly wearing game of the Italians were reviving. But then Raphinha brought the ball from a half -left position with two attempts in the goal. Barca thought he was in the final. But only five minutes.
Acerbi uses Dumfries template
Because after Yamal only hit the right post after his two slatted hits in the first leg (90.+3), the Milan “Morgenluft”: Marcus Thuram used his massive body, the ball landed at Dumfries, whose cross was a found eating for Acerbi. His direct acceptance from a short distance was hit under the crossbar, as in the first leg it was 3: 3 after 90 minutes.
In the onset of rain in the Lombardy, the sheet seemed to turn towards the home side again. Again it was Thuram, who prevailed on the right, the ball landed via Mehdi Taremi with Davide Frattesi: Barca’s defender remained too tentative, Frattesi saw the gap and circulated the ball at the bottom left. The Giuseppe-Mazza Stadium was head.
Lewandowski awards Header
Hansi Flick had only brought Lewandowski shortly before the end of the regular season. The former Bundesliga goalkeeper left his first big chance: after Yamal crossed, who was still brilliant after a good 100 minutes on the right side on the right side, “Lewa” climbed up to the header, but put the ball over the latte.
Yann Sommer captures the victory of the Italians
And then Summer recorded the victory: Yamal took measure from the half-right side, snapped the ball, but keeper, which was long in the Gladbacher and briefly in the Bavaria goal, steered the shot around the post (115.). Even two minutes later, the Swiss keeper was the winner against the young star of the Catalans. “We are all disappointed, we have invested so much – but I’m proud of my team”said Flick and promised: “We will come back and try to win the title next season.”
Sommer explained the energy performance with the mentality of his team at “Amazon Prime”: “There is a huge belief in this team. If you have the chance to move into a final, everyone gives everything.” In the second leg between Paris St. Germain and FC Arsenal, the second leg is determined. The French won the first leg 1-0. The final will be held in Munich on May 31.
