He has worked in various positions for the German Athletics Association since 2008, most recently at the top: Idriss Gonschinska will now end his work for the DLV.

Idriss Gonschinska is stepping down as CEO of the German Athletics Association (DLV) at the end of the year. The association announced this on Tuesday. The 56-year-old wants to devote himself to new tasks in the future. “Now is the right moment to make room for new impulses and to take on a new challenge,” said Gonschinska.

Born in Leipzig, he used to be a hurdler himself and began his career in the association in 2008. He later took on responsibility as national coach for running and sprint disciplines, then as head national coach and later as senior sports director.

In 2019, Gonschinska became general director of the DLV and has been chairman of the board since 2021. DLV supervisory board chairman Jochen Schweitzer said: “With great commitment, foresight and passion, Idriss Gonschinska has made a decisive contribution in recent years to making the association fit for the future.”

Kristin Behrens will take over as successor on an interim basis. The previous director of sports development was temporarily appointed to the board. Together with Jörg Bügner, board member of competitive sports, she will continue the operational and strategic work in the association.
