The true story of Lizzie Borden, who was the serial killer

Lizzie was born in 1860 in a small town in Massachusetts. His father Andrew was a very rich man, owner of banks, land and farms, and, at the same time, very thrifty: their house had no bathroom or running water, considered unnecessary expenses. At the time of the events, Lizzie’s mother had been missing for some time: Lizzie and her sister Emma live with their stepmother Abby, who they resented.. The tense domestic climate worsens when the father, so stingy with the family, gives a house to his wife’s sister.

On August 4, 1982, Emma is on holiday with distant relatives: Lizzie, her stepmother and her father remain at home. Suddenly, the maid discovers the latter’s body dead and lying on the sofa. Inspecting the house, Abby’s is also found, both torn apart by numerous and violent ax blows to the head. Lizzie she is immediately accused of the crime; in the trial, despite the clear evidence against him (including the discovery of the weapon in the house), she is incredibly acquitted. In fact, his lawyer manages to convince the jury that the violence and brutality of the murder (18 shots for the man and 13 for the woman) exclude the possibility that the person responsible could have been a woman.

Having cashed in on her father’s rich inheritance, Lizzie became very rich and died in 1927. Subsequently, his fame and his crimes remain imprinted in the collective memory and imagination, also as a source for various films and television programs, to which the new season of Monster.
