“THEL breast cancer that I have been fighting since 2015 has reappeared, always in the same place.” He doesn’t mince words Carolyn Smith to talk about his battle. The disease has returned and she is fighting again: “I’m not giving up” she says in an interview with the weekly People the choreographer, president of the jury of Dancing with the Stars.
Carolyn Smith: «The tumor is back»
«It’s a bit like he’s playing hide and seek: he disappears a bit and reappears a bit… A January, after routine tests, they told me I had to undergo more aggressive treatment». So the choreographer goes back to talking about her breast cancer. Carolyn Smith has always shared her battle with the public and also via social media. But the return of the disease was not easy to accept. «For the first time in all these years I felt bad: I didn’t think I would have to face chemo that was stronger than the first treatments».
Chemotherapy every three weeks
The treatment process, therefore, continues for Carolyn Smith. «I’m having chemotherapy every three weeks and, the next day, to protect the marrow and increase the white blood cells, I have an injection which is no walk in the park” tells. Not denying that she too, like everyone, has her moments that influence her optimism. Like many others, she too wondered why her illness affected her and she happened to let herself go into tears and despair. «If it happens, and it’s rare, I’m alone in the car lulled by my playlist, or in the shower, so the flowing water mixes with the tears».
That special relationship with Milly Carlucci
Carolyn Smith is not alone in her battle. Next to her, among others, is her friend Milly Carlucci. The presenter was the first person the choreographer called after the diagnosis and it was she who introduced her to the oncologist who is treating her. There is a great friendship between the two women: «I believe in friendship between women. It is a great value capable of instilling strength even in difficult moments» says the landlady of dancing with the Stars. «She saved my life» underlines Carolyn Smith, reiterating all her affection for Milly Carlucci.
