In the region there are several carnival celebrations, spread over several weeks. In La Louvière, the ‘Laetare’ or ‘half-fast carnival’ takes place this weekend. The folkloric associations announced today that they will meet in the afternoon on the town square and will hold a minute of silence for the victims of last Sunday.
About 800 to 1,000 attendees are expected. “First there will be a cannon shot that should be heard throughout the city. The cafes have been asked to stop the music for a minute, to commemorate the victims,” said spokesman Dominique Depoter.
On Sunday from 4 a.m. the pick-up of the so-called gilles starts, from door to door. “We once again urged strict adherence to the safety measures for parades,” said Depoter, referring to the presence of signalmen at the front and back of the group, “sometimes even with cars with flashing lights”.
