Carles Puigdemont sees “legitimate” that schools disobey the Catalan law

  • The former president defends the Catalan language as “the only one” of Catalonia

The ‘ex-president’ of the Generalitat and president of the Council for the Republic (CxRep), Carles Puigdemonthas considered that the disobedience according to the Catalan law by the educational system is “legitimate“, but that it must be done with the maximum knowledge and legal support that an action of this type requires, he said.

He stated this in response to questions from the representatives of the CxRep during the fourth plenary session of the Assembly of Representatives held this Saturday, in which he explained that the CxRep is working “to offer the educational community a disobedience strategy“.

All this, after the PSC, ERC, Junts and ‘comuns’ reached a linguistic pact that was approved in the Parliament to fit the sentence that forces 25% of classes to be carried out in Spanish in Catalan schools. In this sense, Puigdemont has claimed Catalan as “the only language” of Catalonia and the one that should be in the classrooms of Catalan schools.

Three resolution proposals have also been presented and voted on: the first urges the Catalan deputies to the Congress and Senate and their parties to make interventions in Catalan, the second revolves around mental health, and the third proposes to create a website on “repression and victories.”
