Car in water in Veenhuizen, driver unharmed

Along the Hoofdweg in Veenhuizen, a car ended up in the Veenhuizerkanaal around 8 p.m. tonight. The female driver managed to get to safety with the help of a bystander after the incident, after which emergency services took care of the victim.

The car ended up exactly between two bridges in the canal. When emergency services were notified, they rushed to Veenhuizen. An air ambulance was also called up, but once on site it turned out that this deployment was not necessary.

Hospital visit not necessary

Once ashore, the woman was checked for injuries in an ambulance, but a hospital visit was not necessary. Police are still investigating how the driver ended up in the water.

To be able to hoist the car out of the canal, the fire service had to demolish part of the bridge railing.
