A car caught fire on the A28 towards Assen near Tynaarlo. The fire has closed the highway between Assen and Groningen in both directions.
It is not yet clear whether there are any injuries, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation. It is also unknown how long the highway will remain closed.
Traffic heading towards Assen can detour via the A7 to Hoogezand and then via the N33 past Veendam.
