The ice hockey professional Tobias Eder is dead. In the summer of 2024, a malignant tumor was diagnosed during a sports medical examination in the run-up to the new season. At that time, Eder immediately started treatment. Now he died on January 29th. The shared that Eisbären Berlin with whom Eder had played in the German ice hockey league (DEL) since 2023.
“We are shocked, deeply sad and stunned,” the club wrote in a brief message on Instagram and then addressed emotional words directly to his late player: “Dear Tobi, you will be missing. You have always put on a smile on everyone’s face we will always remember you! ” The polar bears are “in his family, his fiancee and his friend”. The association asked to “refrain from further questions (both with us and the relatives)”.
German champion and National player
The Eder, born on March 4, 1998 in Tegernsee, was trained at the EC Bad Tölz. Early he drew attention to himself as a great talent and was awarded the player of the year in the German Young League (DNL) in 2015. This is how the EHC Red Bull Munich signed the junior international. For the club, he came to his DEL debut in the 2017/18 season – after borrowing, among other things to the Young Academy of the EHC Red Bull Salzburg.
The center became runner -up with Munich in 2019 and then joined the Düsseldorfer eG. In 2023 the move to the Eisbären Berlin followed, with which he became German champion in his first season in 2024. Eder was used in all games (52 times in the main round and 15 times in the playoffs) and scored a total of 25 goals. Overall, Eder went on ice for Munich, Düsseldorf and Berlin in almost 300 DEL games.
In 2024, Eder also took part in his first major international tournament for the German A national team, in which he debuted in the 2020/21 season. At the World Cup in the Czech Republic, he was part of the impression, was used three times and scored a goal. According to the association, Eder played 27 international matches.
Great sympathy after cancer diagnosis
When Eder received his cancer diagnosis in 2024, there was an overwhelming sympathy of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) and its fans. For example, Eder and the polar bears received an oversized greeting card signed by around 1,000 fans of Düsseldorfer eG.
The Adler Mannheim also expressed their sympathy with a special campaign. The team of the Great Rivals ran up with warm-up jerseys at the time against the polar bears, on which Eder’s number “22” was printed.
Eder thanked for the great support
The Berlin fan scene called Eder’s name through the hall since his lack of the starting line -up. In the past, Eder had always supported his teammates from the stands in the past few months. At the beginning of November 2024, he thanked the fans for great support.
