Sandokanthe «role of life»
When it comes to work, however, Can Yaman is decidedly more at ease. TO Sunday In he told how much the role of Sandokan is important to him and also the difficulties that this series faced before seeing the light. «It’s one great revenge. It was supposed to be filmed five years ago, but it wasn’t possible for many reasons, such as the pandemic. They told me it wasn’t done anymore, I had come to Italy specifically and trained for 6 months. I was disappointed, because I saw it as a bit of a scam. Then they called me a year ago and told me that they were finally ready to shoot Sandokan and I was therethe happiest person in the world.” For the actor this role is really important. «It’s the role of my life and it’s rare to have such a long period to tackle a part, I had a lot of time to prepare physically and mentally, to study the character well.”
A whole new Sandokan
Can Yaman’s character will be very different from that of Kabir Bediwhich contributed so much to the success of Salgari’s hero. “We have never met,” the actor said a few days ago to Vanity Fair. «With great respect I can say that I have read all of Salgari’s novels and seen his old works, but I wanted to create an authentic character. When I act I draw inspiration from many things, but I don’t imitate anyone. My Sandokan is part ascetic, part prophet, part savior of the people.” Comparisons, moreover, are never a good idea and trivialize interpretation and actors, who can coexist peacefully, each in their own way.
