In July, FRITZ! has launched a new update wave. A total of 10 FRITZ!Boxes are set to receive new firmware. Most will be upgraded to FRITZ!OS 8.25, while one router will be equipped with FRITZ!OS 8.26. This update aims to fix various issues, potentially optimizing your WLAN speed once again.

  • FRITZ!Box 5690 Pro
  • FRITZ!Box 7632

What’s Inside FRITZ!OS 8.25 and 8.26

The FRITZ!OS 8.25 update introduces a brand-new online monitor, allowing you to see which device is using the most internet bandwidth. Moreover, it enhances the mesh connection between the router and repeaters. If you have multiple FRITZ! devices, they will automatically select the most stable connection method among themselves, helping to reduce WLAN outages.

If you have set up a home server via FRITZ!NAS, you can now share folders via a link. Others can use this link to upload or download files. This feature allows you to share photos from family gatherings without relying on cloud services. Additionally, the parental controls have been made more user-friendly; for example, you can now link your child’s access profile with a specific device and set usage limits.

Additionally, FRITZ! is working on fixing numerous errors with this update. This includes issues with Wi-Fi 7 device logins, restrictions on channel bandwidth in the 5 GHz WLAN, and errors in the online monitor, parental controls, and home network management.

FRITZ!OS 8.26 Fixes Speed Issues

For the FRITZ!Box 7510, FRITZ! is already distributing FRITZ!OS 8.26. This version also includes the new features and improvements. Moreover, this update fixes an issue related to specific connections that previously throttled the data transmission speed. After the update, you should be able to fully utilize your high-speed internet plan.

How to Install the Update

To install the update, you need to enter fritz.box in your browser or type in the router’s IP address. Log in with your password and navigate to the system settings. Then, select “Update.” Here you can check for new updates and see if the latest firmware is available. Please note that your WLAN may experience a brief outage during the update process—it’s advisable to initiate the update just before bedtime. If you have automatic updates enabled, you won’t need to worry about manual installations.
