By taking care of 278 asylum seekers itself, Nijkerk is leading the way in the country

Nijkerk is one of the first cities in the Netherlands to take the reception of asylum seekers into its own hands. The municipality believes this will enable it to better respond to the wishes of local residents. The condition is that the government pays the lion’s share of the costs, approximately 23 million euros. The first 75 refugees can then move to an office building on Beurtschipper in July.
