Mayor Bart Dochy showed the minister around an innovative water purification project, which was realized with Flemish subsidies. With this, the mayor immediately addresses one of his biggest concerns, because a lot of administration preceded that project. But basic financing and the organization of out-of-school childcare in the amended decree are also matters that local authorities are concerned about. And the Flemish Minister of the Interior is interested in this.

“I think that the connection as Minister of the Interior of all local authorities is important. We ask a lot of our local authorities, mayors often say: ‘Brussels has imposed something again’. I go to the local authorities to to listen to their concerns and see how we can make life a little more pleasant for them,” Hilde Crevits explains.
