In the round of 16 second leg against Lille, BVB turned up especially in the second half. Two DFB stars shot the Borussia into the next round.

The eleven of coach Niko Kovač had put a night of night into the game. After five minutes, Jonathan David put the hosts in the lead. He also benefited from a mistake by BVB keeper Gregor Kobel, who had the ball slipped through his legs.

But the “black yellow” fought and played out some options before the break, but they could not use them at first. In half -time two, the guests finally took control – and were rewarded. In the 54th minute, Emre Can converted the due penalty to Serhou Guirassy to Serhou Guirassy. BVB was now finally played in the opposing half. With Maximilian Beier, it was another national player who, after a good combination of around eleven meters, transformed the lead. Lille then gave everything again, but it was no longer enough for the equalization.

In the round of the last eight, BVB now meets FC Barcelona under the direction of ex-national coach Hansi Flick. The duel had already occurred in the league of the competition. In December, the Spaniards in Dortmund prevailed 3-2.

In front of the opera, where the big bell tower plays “joy of beautiful gods” at the full hour, the BVB fans had gathered to find hope after the latest Augsburg bankruptcy (0: 2) on the bottom of their beers. They later saw the Belfried in the great choreography in the east stand.

The BVB professionals also boomed it in the ears: “Very clear and very direct” he had made up the team, revealed Kovač. Yan Couto, Ramy Bensebaini, Salih Özcan and Jamie Gitten had to go to the bench. In the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, immersed by the Lillois entirely in red and silver, Waldemar Anton, Julian Rerson, Marcel Sabitzer and Beier attempts were allowed.

After the quick goal and a short break to break fasting in Ramadan, BVB was able to start over. It didn’t get better at first: Sabitzer enabled Rémy Cabella the next big chance (14th), his teammates watched Lille to play instead of promoting duels.

After all, the first rooms opened aggressively. However, Groß failed freely in front of goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier (17th), Julian Brandt missed the equalization in a chaotic vole scene twice (20th). It was like a hitch: the Dortmund played along, were now equal, but the ball didn’t want to go into the goal.

The BVB increased the risk after the half -time break and was also rewarded after a steep pass. However, Guirassy was very easy, but the Dortmund could not have complained about the absence of the penalty whistle.

The game became the desert European Cup fight in the best atmosphere-with Dortmund advantages: Karim Adeyemi shot after a strong BVB attack on the upper edge of the crossbar (62nd), then headed just next to the post (64.). Shortly afterwards he hit the angle powerfully. It remained exciting because Brandt missed the decision (75th).
