After BVB was eliminated from the DFB Cup on Tuesday evening, Emre Can was upset about a scene – and even discussed it with the Sky reporter.
Borussia Dortmund has been eliminated from the DFB Cup: a 0-1 defeat against Bayer Leverkusen sealed the defeat for coach Niko Kovač’s team. Afterwards, Emre Can appeared frustrated in an interview with Sky – he couldn’t get over a scene from the game.
In the 19th minute, BVB player Carney Chukwuemeka received the ball in the penalty area and tried to turn around when he fell to the ground. Leverkusen’s Jarell Quansah had his hands on the 22-year-old, but no pulling could be seen in the TV images. For Can it was still the excitement of the game.
He said on Sky: “It’s clearly grabbing him. I would say it’s a penalty.” Reporter Sebastian Hellmann then asked the Dortmund player how often he holds opponents like that, whereupon Can got upset again and replied: “On the hip?” Hellmann pointed out that the professionals would also hug each other from time to time.
Can even wanted to recreate the scene with the reporter and continued to rumble: “It’s clearly a penalty. He keeps it for a long time.” Hellmann said: “I would say if he doesn’t give it, it’s okay. And if he gives it, the VAR doesn’t attack either. I’m actually not a VAR fan, but I think in this case it’s a 50-50 decision. That’s okay for me.” Can didn’t agree with that and spoke of a 70-30 distribution.
Ibrahim Maza scored the goal for Leverkusen in the 34th minute. BVB also had opportunities, but did not convert them into a goal. Waldemar Anton said on Sky: “We have enough chances to score the goal. Unfortunately we didn’t manage to do that. We have to work on that and do much better in the next game.”
