BVB sports director Sebastian Kehl explains the secret of success

Thanks to an impressive series of victories, BVB is suddenly back in the middle of the fight for the championship in the Bundesliga. Sports director Sebastian Kehl has now revealed the secret of Borussia Dortmund’s success.

Even before the World Cup, BVB was sixth in the Bundesliga table. Nine points separated Borussia from league leaders FC Bayern. Only seven game days later, the black and yellow managed to close the gap at the top of the table. The Westphalians have recently won seven times in a row in the Bundesliga.

“There isn’t one key. We’ve worked hard on many issues,” explained sports director Sebastian Kehl to the “kicker” about his team’s upswing: “It starts in the medical field: the larger number of available players compared to the first half of the season leads to a higher training intensity and a stronger competition.”

BVB professionals “have to live up to expectations”

Another factor is the work of the BVB coaching team around head coach Edin Terzic, the ex-pro continued. “They have further developed the team in terms of compactness and efficiency. We act much better there. Our standards also work,” said Kehl, who has held the post of sports director since the summer.

In addition, Kehl revealed that there was a rethinking in the team. Everyone involved understood “that they have to meet the demands they have on themselves and the expectations they have raised.”

This is how a culture of performance emerged, which Terzic in particular can be very happy about. In the past few weeks, he had emphasized at countless press conferences that he always wanted to reward good performance. Due to the increased quality in training, the 40-year-old can now also react to weaker performances. An opportunity that was denied to him last year due to many injuries.
