But much more important than the 2-0 at FC St. Pauli was the realization for players and those responsible for BVB: the zero is finally. For the fourth time in the past five games, the Dortmund did not concede any goal.
“It is always a team performance to play too zero,” said goalkeeper Gregor Kobel. “I mean, every single one is part of it. It starts with me at the back, the four chain, the coach on the sidelines, but also the six, every single one is one of them.”
The work of Niko Kovac has a decisive part in the new defensive strength. He has been head coach at BVB since the beginning of February. Among him, the Dortmund seem more stable. Suddenly Westphalia also have the Champions League places in mind again.
“That was the desire that we will give this team again with a little simplicity, through a little simplicity, in the end by clear speeches by Niko and his team of coaches,” said sports director Sebastian Kehl. There is more a matter of course in the game, the processes fit better.
Before the round of 16 in the Champions League on Tuesday (9:00 p.m./Amazon Prime) against OSC Lille, BVB seems to find its strength more and more. “I think we can build on it,” said Kobel.
