In the summer, Julian Brandt and Borussia Dortmund will part ways after seven years. Because his contract is expiring and he is available for free, the 29-year-old midfielder has already been linked to various top European clubs. According to the “Gazzetta dello Sport” there has been contact with AS Roma.
Brandt has been with BVB since 2019 and is the longest-serving professional in Niko Kovac’s squad. He is now one of the top 20 professionals with the most appearances for the black and yellow team. In 300 games he scored 56 goals and 69 assists – actually promising numbers, as in the last four Bundesliga seasons he was always involved in at least 15 goals. It was reported several times that Brandt wanted to move abroad.
At AS Roma, which is in sixth place in Serie A, there could be a change in the summer due to numerous expiring contracts. Brandt could follow Paulo Dybala and Lorenzo Pellegrini, whose working papers end in the summer and, according to the report, will not be extended, in the attacking midfield. Dybala is said to receive a gross annual salary of 8.5 million euros, Pellegrini’s salary is probably 6.5 million euros – making both of them among the top earners. According to media reports, Brandt’s salary in Dortmund is 8 million euros.
There is no mention of any specific discussions in the report, and German media are not yet reporting on the Roma interest in Brandt. The Bremen native’s decision will probably take some time because several clubs are associated with him. Arsenal FC, Atlético Madrid and FC Barcelona are among those mentioned in the TM rumor mill.
