BVB: Marco Reus warns of Sancho hype

Borussia Dortmund celebrates a 3-0 win over relegation candidate SV Darmstadt. After the game, the focus is on comebacker Jadon Sancho, who raves about his old and new companion Marco Reus. But the BVB veteran also warns against too much hype.

It was a bit like old times: Jadon Sancho hung up on Marco Reus. The striker pushes in. BVB wins, the fans celebrate.

After four games without a win, Borussia Dortmund starts the football year 2024 with a three-pointer. New signing Sancho, who came on as a substitute with Reus in the second half, played an important role in this.

“He’s a difference player,” Reus enthused about his teammate on “Sky” after the game. “I really enjoy playing with him – just like back then. I was very, very happy that he found his way back to us.”

BVB does not expect any “miracles” from Jadon Sancho

At the same time, Reus warned against placing too high expectations on the 23-year-old Englishman. One should not expect “miracle things,” said Reus. “The boy didn’t play at all for seven or eight months. He had no rhythm, little team training, so every minute helps, every minute of training on the pitch, scorer points, because they give you the most self-confidence.”

And with this he could be “very, very important for us because he resolves situations very well and has an incredible last pass,” said the ex-BVB captain. “He finds the perfect moment. But we also have other good guys there, so the competition is very fierce.”

BVB coach Edin Terzic was also happy about the successful debut of the Man United loanee. He particularly likes Sancho’s attitude.

“Even when we made it clear to him what the conditions were, he was immediately there with a big smile,” said Terzic. “Jadon is a player who plays better when he smiles. But there are also things that you have to do without smiling, that perhaps lack talent and he has to measure himself and grow with that. He showed us this willingness.”
