BVB long in the mood for alarm? “It definitely needs reinforcements”

Four points from the first two games, plus sixth place in the Bundesliga: Things could have been worse for BVB, who won against 1. FC Köln (1-0) and drew at VfL Bochum ( 1:1) started the season. But in Dortmund there has long been an alarm mood.

The performances of the Black and Yellows in both games were far too weak for the protagonists to be able to speak of a successful start to the new year.

Even at home against 1. FC Köln, BVB owed a lot, especially in terms of play. And at VfL Bochum, Dortmund were able to thank goalkeeper Gregor Kobel and the goalpost several times for not ending the little district derby in defeat.

For the German record player Lothar Matthäus it is clear that something has to be done with the runner-up.

“You’re lucky that you got four points from two games, even though you’re playing so badly,” the 62-year-old found clear words in his “Sky” column.

Matthäus advises BVB to make several transfers

“Cologne were better last week and there was little sign of sovereignty in Bochum. I hate to say it, but the bitter draw against Mainz on the last day left a clear mark. It definitely needs reinforcements,” said Matthäus, who was more or less still sees a need to catch up in all parts of the team in the black and yellow.

Yussuf Poulsen from RB Leipzig, in whom Matthäus sees “more than just a backup” for regular player Sebastien Haller, was last traded in the striker position.

But BVB also had to upgrade in defense and midfield, Matthäus decided: “Three central defenders and three wingers are also not enough. Before it starts with injuries and suspensions and the solution again is: Can back or Süle to the right , should be bought.”
