BVB is threatened with a transfer deadlock – desired player too expensive?

Borussia Dortmund are said to have identified Ian Maatsen from Chelsea FC as their preferred player for the left-back position. However, the Blues are apparently demanding a lot of money for the 21-year-old Dutchman – possibly too much for BVB, who are threatened with a hanging game.

After “Bild” reported on advanced discussions in personnel, “Sky” is now following up. According to the TV station, Maatsen is actually high on BVB’s shopping list.

The problem: Chelsea is said to be willing to loan the youngster, but wants to link this deal with an obligation to buy him for the coming summer in order to improve its financial fair play balance.

According to the report, the Londoners’ demand is tough: Maatsen’s price tag is said to be a whopping 30 million euros – even though his market value is only estimated at 20 million euros.

Maatsen would immediately move into the top 10 of the most expensive BVB transfers in the club’s history. In view of these numbers, it is questionable whether the move to Dortmund will actually go through in the end, even if the player himself is allegedly very impressed by BVB’s advertising.

BVB is threatened with a transfer deadlock

“Sky” confirms the information previously reported by “Bild” that Sergio Reguilón, who is currently on loan from Tottenham Hotspur to Manchester United, is still an alternative candidate. Fran Garcia (Real Madrid) should also continue to be an issue at BVB. However, it is said that the trail to the two Spaniards has recently become colder.

It is therefore almost impossible for the new signing to travel to the training camp in Marbella on Wednesday. Instead, Mr. X could fly after the BVB entourage as soon as his commitment is finalized.

Because of Ramy Bensebaini’s trip to the Africa Cup with Algeria, BVB has identified the left-back position as the biggest transfer construction site of the winter and is looking for reinforcement there as a priority. However, it seems that patience is still required.
