BVB: Hummels does not want to claim a boss role in the DFB team

For returnee Mats Hummels, the first international match in over two years was “an absolutely special moment”.

At the same time, the Dortmund player also admitted on RTL after the German national team’s 3-1 win against hosts USA on Saturday: “I have to say, surprisingly, with more nervousness than I expected. There was a certain extra tension. It did “It was a lot of fun. The anthem before the game, but also standing on the pitch in that setting during the game.”

The central defender, who played his last international match in June 2021 in the European Championship exit in the round of 16 against England, impressed with his opening game and header strength. He was substituted in the second half after a decent comeback in the 62nd minute.

After the game, Hummels didn’t want to claim any role as a boss. “If Toni Rüdiger plays there too, I’m definitely not the clear leader. There’s very good coaching together there. There are a lot of commands,” said Hummels: “I wouldn’t insist that that’s our formation.”
