To boost your career again

From FC Utrecht, Sébastien Haller once made the jump to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga. Now the striker is returning to his former club after seven and a half years. As Borussia Dortmund announced, the loan to CD Leganés was ended early by mutual agreement and a new one was started in Utrecht.

It had been clear for some time that Haller would not stay in Spain, where he moved from Dortmund on Deadline Day in the summer. “Marca” reported in December about negotiations to end the loan early. The LaLiga club had originally agreed a season-long contract with BVB. Haller was used nine times for Leganés, but did not record a score. His contract in Dortmund is valid until 2026.

Haller now wants to boost his career again at the Eredivisie club. In terms of sport, things are currently looking promising for the cathedral townspeople. Only the reigning title holders PSV Eindhoven and record champions Ajax Amsterdam are ahead of Utrecht in the table, which last reached the group stage of the Europa League in 2010/11. Third place would mean participation in the Champions League qualification this season.

Haller comeback in Utrecht: BVB hopes for a return to old form

With Haller’s first commitment, people in Utrecht had good experiences not only in terms of sport but also financially. After a purchase price of 750,000 euros and 51 goals by the Ivorian in three seasons, the selling price was 12 million euros. Haller went to Frankfurt, made his breakthrough there too and ended up in the Premier League at West Ham, later at Ajax, then in Dortmund, where he was diagnosed with cancer, which abruptly interrupted the goalscorer’s career.

In Utrecht they hope to be able to see Haller back to his old strength and finally bring clarity to the volatile storm center. To date, Frankfurt’s loan player Paxten Aaronson from midfield and winger Miguel Rodríguez (on loan from Celta Vigo) have accounted for most of the team’s goals. Both contributed five goals and three assists in all competitions. The most dangerous center forwards so far have been David Min and former Leipzig player Noah Ohio with four goals each. The latter is out due to injury.
