Striking: the statue consists entirely of natural materials, such as wood, reed and straw. Artist Maxime Van Besien was allowed to unveil the work today. “I am very proud, especially proud of the image that is finally there for the people of Ostend. It was a nervous ride this morning. The statue left at 7am and now it is there.”
And not only Maxime is beaming with pride, mayor Bart Tommelein is also over the moon with this unique work of art. “I think it is a very successful work of art. Especially because it is the only work of art in Belgium made from natural sustainable materials. Yes, as mayor I am very proud of that.”
