At the start of the upcoming Bundesliga season, a special highlight is waiting for the FC Bayern footballers. The team of coach Alexander Straus will play the first game of the new season on September 6th (5:45 p.m.) in the Allianz Arena – for the first time as an official start to the season in the home venue of the men’s professionals. The opponent has not yet been determined, he will be announced by the German Football Association after the current season.
For the Munich women it is already the fifth appearance in the arena, in which men around Manuel Neuer and Harry Kane play up to 75,000 fans. The women’s team has so far contested three Champions League games and a Bundesliga game.
The previous audience record for Bayern soccer players is 24,000. This brand was reached at the end of 2022 when the team met Barça in the Champions League group phase and won 3-1. This brand could now fall at the start of the new season.
Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen emphasized that the season opener of the women’s Bundesliga had its place on the big stage. Together with the team and the fans, they want to celebrate a football festival and set a strong sign of women’s football. In his opinion, such events made an important contribution to promoting the development and visibility of women’s football.
