The French first division club Le Havre mourns the loss of its assistant coach Bryan Bergougnoux. He was actually supposed to still be on the pitch on Friday.

Former French professional footballer Bryan Bergougnoux died on Friday at the age of 43 after a short illness. This was announced by the French first division club Le Havre AC, for whom he had worked as an assistant coach since last summer.

In 2023, the former striker made it public that he had parotid cancer. After an operation three years ago to remove the tumor and a nerve, he was partially paralyzed in his face.

The former offensive player played a total of 325 games in the first and second French leagues between 2001 and 2018. During his career, Bergougnoux played for well-known clubs such as Olympique Lyon, with whom he became French champions four times and won the Super Cup three times, FC Toulouse, US Lecce and Omnia Nicosia. He scored nine goals in 20 games for the French U21 national team.

With Le Havre he celebrated staying in the French first division at the end of the past season. This Friday he was actually supposed to take part in a legends tournament in Toulouse.
