February 18th
– STILL

Waiting for Marcell Jacobs, on Sunday competing in the 60s and with the European Championships in Istanbul on 2-5 March in the background, the cover of the first day of the indoor Assoluti in Ancona belongs to Roberta Bruni who, with 4.62, after ten years and one day (Ancona , 17 February 2013), improves its Italian record of the indoor auction by two centimetres. The 29-year-old from Rieti, who then tries 4.69 in vain, thus places herself in third place on the European seasonal list and seventh on the world list. After the 4.72 outdoors on 30 August in Rovereto, it is the confirmation that the carabiniere belongs to the international elite of the specialty. Also valid is the 4.52 by Elisa Molinarolo.

Dal Molin

Waiting for Marcell Jacobs, applause to his friend Paolo Dal Molin. The 35-year-old from Alessandria, in the battery of 60 obstacles, runs in a crackling 7″54, 3/100 from his own Italian record, obtained on the occasion of the indoor European Championships in Gothenburg 2013, when he was splendid silver (then also bronze in Torun 2021) . For the policeman it is the second performance of his career. Confirming that, when injuries give him some respite, he’s still number one. Relative truce: no later than Monday, Antonio De Sanctis’s pupil underwent an injection in his achy hips. So much so that, after the exploit, he gave up the final as a precaution. He will return to the Madrid meeting on Wednesday. The title thus goes to the promising Lorenzo Simonelli, a 20-year-old from Rome who, with 7″66, improves his fresh Italian record under 23 by 1/100. After Hassane Fofana and Nicolò Giacalone, fourth is Leonardo Tano, son of the porn actor Rocco Siffredi, in the grandstand. Even the women’s 60m hurdles offer progress: Nicla Mosetti wins who, after 8″12 of the heat, grows up to 8″04, sixth Italian time trial ever, the same as Elisa Di Lazzaro, “burned” at the photo finish. Veronica Besana also does well, third with 8”14.

Missed expectations

The most eagerly awaited ones do not live up to expectations. Great things were expected from Mattia Furlani and Larissa Iapichino from the long platform. The first, with 7.50 (plus a 7.00 and four nulls…), does no better than the third, beaten by Filippo Randazzo (7.68) and Lorenzo Mantenuto (7.54). The second wins, but with a relatively modest series for her, culminating in a double 6.53 (plus a 6.50 and three nulls). Not even Elena Vallortigara flies (above): a 1.90 is enough for her to win the title.

Show 1500

The two 1500s put on a show. In quality contexts and after long sprints Pietro Arese and Ludovica Cavalli stand out, young and beautiful realities of the Italian middle distance. The 23-year-old from Turin trained by Silvano Danzi in Varese, fourth at the European Championships in Munich last summer, with always elegant action and a 3’48”07, lines up Joao Bussotti and Osama Meslek. She, the 22-year-old Genoese followed by Stefano Baldini in Rubiera, after 8’44″40 in the 3000m last weekend, imposes herself in 4’08″00, the fourth Italian all-time performance after Dorio, Possamai and Vissa, preceded here by 20/100. She will talk about both of them: guaranteed.

The others

In walk walking, the Italian champions are Francesco Fortunato in the 5000m (18’37”63) and 19-year-old Alexandrina Mihai in the 3000m (12’51”73). The heptathlon, as predicted, goes to Sveva Gerevini: the Cremona native, with 4411 points (8″34/60 hs, 1.72/high, 12.23/weight, 6.07/long, 2’12″20/800), misses the own Italian record of 40 due to an opaque performance in the long run. Haunted platform?

400 batteries

Meanwhile, the batteries of the 400m offer prestigious results: the (relatively) new name is that of Riccardo Meli, a 21-year-old from Palermo who has been enlisted by the Fiamme Gialle since December and is now trained in Castelporziano (Rome) by Claudio Licciardello, a former Italian record holder in the specialty. Already under 23 European silver with the 4×400 in Tallinn 2021, he makes an impetuous solitary race and finishes in 46”38, seventh national performance all-time with a progress on the recent personal of 20/100. On Sunday, in the final, he will be able to improve further. Meanwhile, in the women’s field, the best is Ayo Folorunso with a valid 52”69.
