Due to the recent transfer of coach Ivan Leko, the match between AA Gent and Club Brugge on Sunday afternoon stirred up even more emotions. According to the local police, there were already some tensions in the visitors’ parking lot before the start of the match.
The police were able to calm things down, but moments later things went wrong. Suddenly a lot of pyrotechnic material was set off, causing one of the Ghent fans to sustain serious injuries to his hand. The victim was taken to hospital and required surgery. During and after the match everything remained quiet in and around the Jan Breydelstradion.
