De Spie is an open space that runs from the Boudewijn Canal to the port of Zeebrugge. The West Flemish Intercommunal WVI previously wanted to build an industrial estate there, but nature associations appealed against the environmental permit to then minister Demir. The WVI later withdrew its application.
In the meantime, Elia wants to expand its existing high-voltage substation in that area for the Ventilus high-voltage connection.
