Bruce Springsteen receives the National Medal for Arts from President Joe Biden

The National Medal for Arts will be presented at the White House in Washington, DC today (March 21). President Joe Biden presents the awards. At 4:30 p.m. local time (21:30 CET), the list of wearers will be expanded to include Bruce Springsteen. He received the award at the suggestion of the National Endowment for the Arts, a government-sponsored public institution dedicated to the advancement of American culture. The reasoning behind the decision said of the musician: “Bruce Springsteen’s music celebrates our triumphs, heals our wounds and gives us hope by capturing the indestructible essence of what it means to be American.” At the medals awarded it is that of the year 2021, when the award had to be canceled due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

The awards have existed since 1984. Among their recipients are Ray Charles, Dolly Parton and Bob Dylan. In addition to the “Boss”, the 2021 vintage also includes the musicians Gladys Knight and Jose Feliciano. The event can live stream be tracked.

Springsteen already holds several national honors. In 2009 he received the Kennedy Centers Honors. In 2016, Barack Obama presented him with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The 73-year-old is currently completing the US leg of this year’s world tour with the E-Street Band, who played a show in Boston yesterday (March 20). Between May and June they come to Europe, for four dates also to Germany. On June 21st to Düsseldorf, on July 15th to Hamburg, on July 21st to the Hockenheimring and two days later to Munich.
