Brazilian ex-president Lula makes comeback official, leads current president Bolsonaro in polls | Abroad

During a meeting in Sao Paulo, he promised to do everything possible to “rebuild Brazil” after the “misrule” of current president Jair Bolsonaro (67). Presidential elections will be held in October.

Lula was already president of Brazil between 2003 and 2010. With social programs he lifted millions of people out of poverty, and the country also flourished economically.

But corruption also thrived under the left-wing politician. In 2018, he himself was convicted of corruption and was unable to participate in that year’s presidential election. However, that conviction was overturned in 2021.

Polls put Lula ahead of right-wing Bolsonaro. On October 2, the Brazilians will elect a new president, vice president and parliament.
