Buildings in various places in Brabant have been colored blue-yellow since Friday. That has nothing to do with the carnival violence that erupted, but everything to do with the war in Ukraine that broke out this week. The action was set up to show solidarity with Ukraine, a country that has a blue and yellow flag.
Russian President Vladimir Putin bombards Ukraine with his army. There is heavy fighting in the capital Kiev, among other places. The West has introduced economic sanctions against Russia. Many Dutch municipalities show their support for Ukraine by lighting buildings in blue-yellow.
With carnival this sometimes leads to confusion. Heesch’s carnival colors are also blue-yellow.
