Boygenius released the almost 15-minute video triptych “the film” with their debut album “the record”. It features juxtaposed music videos for the pre-release album lead singles “$20,” “Emily I’m Sorry,” and “True Blue.” Actress Kristen Stewart directed the film.

In each of the clips, the focus is on one of the three members of the indie supergroup. The first part accompanies Julien Baker in a simple suburb as he repairs a run-down car. In “Emily I’m Sorry” Phoebe Bridgers is standing in a monster truck arena, towards the end of the segment the other band members join her. In the last and longest part, Lucy Dacus paints the walls of her apartment blue and towards the end receives the support of the other two singers, who hug each other at the end of “the film”.

In addition to the three lead singles released as audio in January, the music video for “Not Strong Enough” was released on March 1st. In it, Julien Baker wears a patch from the German black metal band Wehrhammer, which describes itself as “National Socialist” and has worked with other openly right-wing bands in the past. The singer reacted dismayed because she did not know about the political views of the neo-Nazi band and apologized in a statement. The patch was removed and the band reaffirmed their years of support for the anti-Nazi movement.

After their first release in 2018 with the self-titled EP, the first full-length player follows. With this they go on North American and European tour. They will come to Berlin and Cologne on August 15th and 16th. There are still tickets for both concerts presented by ROLLING STONE tickets.
