The police write that just before the kick-off at 6 p.m. there were several supporters wearing balaclavas in the stands. In addition, a number of them had fireworks torches with them.

Struggle

Stewards tried to remove a person wearing a balaclava from the stands, but a struggle ensued. Officers then came to help. Other supporters around it started to get involved and flares were thrown at the stewards and police. Several stewards and agents were hit as a result.

They were not injured, a police spokesperson explained. The torches did cause fire damage to several items of clothing. The spokesperson calls it ‘very serious violence against officers and stewards’.

Multiple arrests not excluded

The police in Rotterdam investigated the incident and discovered the 17-year-old from Bergen. He was arrested at home on Thursday. Multiple arrests cannot be ruled out.
