Jack Culcay enjoyed some success as a boxer. But the glory days seem to be over. The former world champion is apparently heavily in debt.

16 years ago, German boxer Jack Culcay became welterweight world champion. But the 40-year-old’s glory days are apparently over. As the trade magazine “Boxsport” reports, the 1.72 meter tall athlete is heavily in debt.

Accordingly, the Potsdam District Court has opened insolvency proceedings against the former champion under file number 670 IK 154/25. All creditors had to register their claims with the Berlin insolvency administrator Riedemann by October 29, 2025. The responsible insolvency court announced this publicly. The aim is to enable the former professional to discharge residual debts at the end of the legal term of the procedure.

Culcay hasn’t boxed since April of last year. According to “Boxsport” he most recently worked as a trainer for Agon Sports & Events in Berlin. However, he is said to have ended the employment relationship there without reason. He also probably owes this employer almost 100,000 euros.

Agon boxing promoter Ingo Volckmann told the “Bild” newspaper: “It’s annoying that it has to end like this. I like Jack and gave him a job as a trainer after his career. For an untrained coach without a trainer’s license who only trains a boxer, at a decent salary.” According to the newspaper, Jack Culcay is said to have received around 2,000 euros per month. 400 to 500 euros were then deducted from the sum due to advance payments.

Volckmann explained: “The advance payments came once or twice, then no more. What makes me sad is that Jack didn’t talk to me. I would be the last person who wouldn’t have made concessions.” According to “Boxsport”, Culcay, who was born in Ecuador, is said to still have debts to friends in the industry.

Culcay has two children and, according to the trade magazine, lives in Potsdam with them and his partner, the former “Miss Berlin” Anna Höfel.
