A boxing match in Ghana ends in a tragedy: one of the fighters collapses. Any help comes too late for him.

A tragic incident shaked the box scene: the Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju died after a fight in Ghana. The professional competed on Saturday as part of the Ghana Professional Boxing League in Accra – it should be his last appearance in the ring.

In the duel of the half -heavy weights in the Bukom Boxing Arena against Ghanaer Jon Mbanugu, Oluwasegun lost awareness in the third round. As the Ghanaian Boxing Association (GBA) announced, the athlete initially received first aid and was then taken to a hospital. However, you could not save your life there – 30 minutes after delivery, his death was found.

Oluwasegun was former Nigerian and West African champion in his weight class. Remi Aboderin, General Secretary of the Nigerian Boxing Association, praised him as a “fearless” fighter towards “BBC Sport Africa”. Oluwasegun died as a “warrior in the ring”. One was “really shaken” about the death of the boxer, said Aboderin and announced that the family of the deceased would be supported.

Before the fight in Ghana, Oluwasegun had completed 23 professional beams – he was able to win 13, eight of them had lost.
