Just like the women of HC ‘s-Hertogenbosch, the men also won the national cup on Thursday evening. In the final of the Gold Cup, the Bosschenaren were far too strong for Almere: 7-2. In 2001 they took the last national title and that is now also the next goal of the cup winner. “But it’s really too early to say that we are going to be champions,” says Bossche defender Timo Boers (21).
Timo was important in the Gold Cup final with two hits. In total, his counter came to fifteen in the cup tournament. “I think we didn’t even play very well today, but we did not get into trouble against Almere. At times we did a little too difficult things, because that was able to score the opponent twice.”
“It won’t be a party tonight.”
The focus now goes out to next Saturday afternoon when the Bosschenaren will visit the number four Kampong in the top class. Little rest for the cup winner. “On Friday it is a matter of repairing and light training and then we can get back to work on Saturday. Here too we will come up with a battle plan that we want to perform as well as possible. It won’t be a party tonight.”
In the competition, HC ‘s Hertogenbosch occupies second place behind Amsterdam. The dream of the Brabanders is to be the best in the Netherlands again, something that the Bossche hockey women are now used to. “The first prize has arrived, but two years ago we also won the Gold Cup. After that, no prize followed. We will see where we are at the end of the season.”

The Bossche defender is known in his own country as a great talent. Especially with the penalty corner, the maker of twenty competitions are feared by opponents. According to Timo, he still has to take steps to get the real top. “I am doing well and the team is doing well. But if I want to get to the Dutch team and play tournaments, then it has to be better defensively. I also want to be more important on the ball. And yes, my corner could be better.”
